NEVADA CITY, CA - The Eighth Annual Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) announce their call for submissions by independent filmmakers interested in entering their shorts, features, and documentaries in this year's festival to be held August 14-17 2008, at the historic locations of the Nevada Theatre, the National Hotel, Miners Foundry, and Magic Theatre.

Organized in 2001 by Nevada City's Magic Theatre, NCFF brings top independent cinema to the foothills of Northern California, and creates a forum of exchange and interaction between local filmmakers and the national and international independent film community.

NCFF is a festival created BY filmmakers FOR filmmakers. NCFF is made up of a group of passionate film enthusiasts that have worked to create an outlet for emerging new voices while providing audiences with a unique experience in a picturesque location.

For decades the beautiful gold rush-era town of Nevada City has been home to a host of world-renowned musicians, poets and visual artists. The area's welcoming and lively arts community and lush natural setting make NCFF one of the leading cultural events in Northern California.

Last year exceeded expectations by growing in the number of films screened, overall attendance, filmmakers visiting from around the world, and special events. This year NCFF plans to host an even larger variety of films, panel discussions, informative Q & A's, and after parties. In the past, films have been judged by writers and film critics from The Union, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, and Rolling Stone Magazine among others.

NCFF proudly continues its tradition of supporting local independent filmmakers and film, by offering residents of Nevada City, Grass Valley, Auburn, Sacramento and Colfax areas the opportunity to submit their film free of charge.  Submitted films from filmmakers from Nevada County will be voted on by the community at www.theunion.com in a local film competition sponsored by the Union newspaper. The 1st place winner will receive a $300 prize plus inclusion in the 8th Annual NCFF. Other films submitted from this competition will be selected by NCFF and shown in a special program during this year's festival.
