Karen Attix Karen Attix is a native of Oakland, California and just recently moved to Nevada City with her husband of 38 years. Her career life as an artist has spanned four decades - first as a professional dancer with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and as a soloist in her own company Dances for 1 and 2 which toured throughout the United States and internationally in Brazil, Cyprus, Turkey and Israel. She has received two NEA Choreography Fellowships and has created over 20 works of dance. She is currently setting a piece for The Movement Alliance. Karen also worked as the manager of UCSF Arts & Performances and helped found the Parnassus Symphony, Poets On Parnassus, the Parnassus Players and the UCSF Annual Faculty/Student Art Show. Her last career, and one she is still practicing, is a Pilates/Gyrotonic trainer and instructor.
Her love of poetry started in New York where her dance poems were published in a small downtown dance journal, EDDY. She is inspired now to continue learning through the body and take this deep wisdom into the world of language. Dance and poetry share so much as they both are about space and time and moving in and out of where mystery meets meaning. Her Salon writings to date are: Visit Karen's website at |
